Cain and Abel represent two ways of life: 1) Cain – those who hide under the banner of religion, and 2) Abel – those who approach God as a sinner and seek Jesus for salvation.
Which path are you walking?
Cain attempted to win God’s favor through his work of tilling the land, while his heart was corrupt. It was this same work that would be cursed upon Cain’s killing Abel. Adam and Eve had already caused the ground to be cursed due to their sin in Eden, but Cain’s sin caused his ability to work the already difficult ground to be cursed.
Cain means “got.”
Abel means “vanity, breath, or vapor.”
Seth means “appointed.” (He started the line of Jesus)
*Lamech, who is revealed to come from the line of Cain, represents the twisting and distorting of God’s value of human life, as he is a murderer and the founder of polygamy.
